INFORMATION AND ADVICE FOR THE USE OF THE CAR PARK
First a little bit of history! Years ago Tunstall School's Governors, published the Traffic Management Policy. This document came about because there was a need to inform parents about the agreed use of this private car park.
The object of this policy document was actually to help create a safe and efficient car park environment, for the use of parents, guardians or their authorized representatives, when bringing their children to school. |

EVEN MORE HISTORY
Before the Village Memorial Hall was built, there was no car park. Parents of the older children in school will remember with horror the 'bad old days', when children had to be dropped outside the front of school or walked up from the Church car park, if you were lucky enough to find somewhere to park. NO-ONE WANTS THOSE BAD OLD DAYS!
The land in which the Hall and Car Park stand is private land, gifted in trust to the Memorial Hall Trustees. Its very location shows that there was always an intention to assist the School in relieving the problems in Tunstall Road, by allowing a safe and pleasant environment for our children to be dropped off and collected. |

The use of the car park is therefore a privilege, for which we all need to assume some responsibility, and one that we should not take for granted. |

What we need to remember and why! This facility is the only safe vehicle access to school, and this is a popular and successful school. That means a lot of cars and a lot of kids! Safety is our first priority. The land owners also have safety considerations and insurance constraints. Subject to formal agreement, actually parking your car is currently concessionary and ideally we would be encouraging you to use this car park as a drop off/pick up facility only. For example, have you noticed how efficiently the car park flows on a “wet start” morning? It is understood that parents of the younger children of Key Stage 1, want to escort them into the playground. |

There are however, many more ways that we can use this facility responsibly.
Car share . Is there anyone you can share the burden of the “School Run” with? Reduce the number of cars and improve the environment at the same time!?
Consider the option of working towards a set down/ pick up situation. The PTA may have some good news to reassure you about this, in the near future.
Drive Slowly! Please enter the car park at a sensible speed and maintain this all the way round!
Do not park on the Disabled Bays on the paved area, unless you are displaying an appropriate and valid sticker.
For safety and maintenance reasons, please do not park on any of the paved areas or grass verges .
Please do not Double Park , this is not safe and is inconsiderate towards other users.
Please do not arrive more than 10 minutes before your child's allocated pick up time. No matter how tempting it may be to get there early and finish the newspaper!

Where you park says a lot about who you are. |

The Traffic Management Policy is still in force.
This document is our commitment to using the car park facility safely and with due consideration to others.
We have a responsibility to ensure that anyone we authorise to bring our children into, or collect from School, is made fully aware of these guidelines.
This leaflet will be made available to anyone who is observed to be disregarding the agreements made in the Traffic Management Policy, for their education and enlightenment! |

Any concerns that you may have about this advice leaflet, use of the car park, the Traffic Management Policy, or the School Travel Plan, please do not hesitate to contact, in the first instance, the PTA Executive Committee. If they are not able to answer your query they'll know a man who can! |
